The Killer Smog

Dr. Matt Wyvratt will discuss the rise and fall of a small industrial town in Western Pennsylvania which experienced an air inversion in the late 1940s. Twenty of the town residents died that fateful weekend due to air pollution and many more developed health problems. This man-made disaster is recognized as the beginning of the clean air movement in the United States. The speaker will also discuss the connection this small town has with professional baseball.
