Event Description:
The Society of Musical Arts (SOMA), a 60 piece orchestra of talented local musicians, has brought fine music to the residents of Union, Essex and surrounding NJ counties free of charge for over 40 years. Our fall program, Sunday, November 10, at 4 pm, is themed “Greatest Hits of 1830,” and opens with Vincenzo Bellini’s Overture to I Capuleti e I Montecchi, an Italian opera version of Romeo and Juliet. Next, we’re proud to feature Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 presented by Seiran Tozlian, a talented young Armenian pianist and composer and already winner of numerous international competitions. Hector Berlioz’ still astonishing Symphonie Fantastique concludes the program. St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Westfield provides our beautiful setting.
